World Leader In Obstacle Racing, Spartan Race Comes to New York’s Tuxedo Ridge Ski Center June 4 and 5
Staff | June 3, 2011 | CommentJoin thousands of competitors on June 4 and June 5 at Tuxedo Ridge Ski Center (www.TuxedoRidge.com) as they battle hills, boulders, mud, fire, 8’ walls, barbed wire, spear throws and gladiators on the epic Spartan Race course.
The Spartan Sprint Race is a 3-mile run around Tuxedo Ridge Ski Center that will challenge the fittest athletes and bring out the Spartan in the most timid competitors. The event is the first of its kind to be held at Tuxedo Ridge Ski Center, and with an estimated attendance of 8,000 – 10,000 racers and spectators, it will also be the largest event the mountain has seen yet.
“The unique obstacle course will demand every ounce of strength, ingenuity, and animal instinct you thought you lost 3 generations ago. Course details are held in secrecy until competitors meet them face to face,” said Brian Duncanson, CEO, Spartan Race, Inc.
Who is a Spartan Race competitor? “Everyone, really – men, woman, students and seniors. The Spartan Races are designed for all participants, beginners to hardcore warriors and marathon runners alike, to have fun and cross the finish line. You need a little physical conditioning and a taste for some adventure,” said Duncanson. Even celebrities, including Alfredo ‘Frado’ Dinten from The Biggest Loser Season 10, will put themselves to the test at Tuxedo Ridge this weekend!
At this particular event, Spartan Race (partnered with RunTex and The Max Cure Foundation for pediatric cancer causes) will host the “Be Brave Jr. Spartan Adventure” to raise money for The Max Cure Foundation, a registered 501C3. Monies will go toward helping families at Dell Children’s Hospital and for The Max Cure Fund at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center (MSKCC) for the purpose of advancing the cause of pediatric cancer, while providing hope and assistance to pediatric cancer families and their communities.
Also, a portion of all money raised in the Spartan Race Series will go to building a home through Homes For Our Troops, a national non-profit that assists severely injured Servicemen and Servicewomen and their immediate families by raising donations of money, building materials and professional labor and to coordinate the process of building a home that provides maximum freedom of movement and the ability to live more independently.
