The PAL was founded by WBC Champion Billy Costello and Kingston Police Officer Aaron Fitzgerald in 2006 with a boxing gym. A weight room was added in 2008. Around that time Allen Nace joined Billy Costello in the boxing gym. Together they branched out and brought the Billy Costello School of Boxing to Fitness Unlimited on Wall Street in Kingston. There they taught boxing to members of the gym. When the gym closed in 2009 the gym members joined the PAL and started the Saturday Morning Boxing Club at the PAL.
Through the years some of the same coaches who were either former boxers or coaches returned to the PAL. Allen Nace trained by Billy Costello, and later by Paul Telesca and Cris Mostacero boxed in the Ringside Masters World Championships in 2011 and continues as a coach. Cris Mostacero a former amateur boxer (under Billy Costello) has been coach for several years. Paul Telesca a former pro who worked with Renaldo Snipes and Carl “The Truth” Williams is also a coach in the PAL gym. Coaches in training are Scott Johnson, Jessica Coliukos and Demetrious Johnson.
Together they bring the ability to teach all levels of boxing from fitness to self defense to competitive boxing. There is another focus at the PAL and that is to help young people connect with positive role models and mentors in the community so that individuals can see and develop a sense of hope and achievement. These positive interactions can result in a positive lifestyle for individuals and communities. This effort continues to be lead by Kingston Police Officer and PAL President Aaron Fitzgerald. The PAL Boxing Gym is open Monday-Friday 5pm-7pm and is FREE to all.
