The First Annual Orange County Silent Film Festival
Four Sessions:
Sunday, July 29, 1:00 – 3:00 pm & 4:00 – 6:00 pm
Monday, July 30, 12:00 – 2:00 pm & 7:00 – 9:00 pm
At the A.W. Buckbee Center, 2 Colonial Avenue, Warwick
Discover how Hollywood began by those who created it at the First Annual Orange County Silent Film Festival, to be held at the A.W. Buckbee Center, 2 Colonial Avenue, Warwick, NY, during four sessions beginning on Sunday, July 29, 1:00 – 3:00 pm & 4:00 – 6:00 pm and Monday, July 30, 12:00 – 2:00 pm & 7:00 – 9:00 pm. Admission is $10.00, $5.00 for children under 12. The festival is a cooperative presentation and fundraiser by The Neversink Valley Museum of History & Innovation, Seth Goldman, Executive Director; and the Warwick Historical Society, Robert Schmick, Executive Director. Each session highlights a different genre of silent films; following is the lineup:
- Session I, Sunday, July 29, 1:00 – 3:00 pm: D.W. Griffith and Cuddebackville – A selection of films by D.W. Griffith that were shot in Cuddebackville from 1909-11. Commentary by Seth Goldman, Executive Director, Neversink Valley Museum.
- Session II, Sunday, July 29, 4:00 – 6:00 pm: Horror/Thriller – Featuring The Haunted Castle (1896) by George Méliès, Frankenstein (1910) by J. Searle Dawson, Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde (1912) by Lucius Henderson, The Midnight Girl (1925), by Wilfred Noy; this film features Bela Lugosi in his pre-Dracula days. Commentary by Gretchen Weerheim, NVM Director of Education.
- Session III, Monday, July 30, 12:00 – 2:00 pm: For Children/Early Animation – Featuring The Enchanted Drawing (1900) by J. Stuart Blackton (of Edison Studios), Fantasmagorie (1908) by Émile Cohl, Little Nemo (1911) by Winsor McCay, Gertie the Dinosaur (1914) by Winsor McCay, A Boy and His Elephant (1913) by Louise Feullade, Our Gang and Felix the Cat. Commentary by Gretchen Weerheim, NVM Director of Education.
- Session IV, Monday, July 30, 7:00 – 9:00 pm: Fantasy/Mystery – Featuring A Trip to the Moon (1902) by George Méliès, and The Bat (1926) by Roland West. Commentary by Gretchen Weerheim, NVM Director of Education.
