When looking for new places to visit this year don’t forget about the pieces of history  that are still alive today – the Catskill Mountain Railroad – where passengers step back to a time when train travel was the primary mode of transportation into the Catskills.

After the devastating effects of Hurricane Irene and Tropical Storm Lee, the Catskill Mountain Railroad has been working diligently to ensure operation for the 2012 season. Show your support by coming to ride the Scenic Train, a modified 5 mile experience, in our restored 1922 Erie Lackawanna Coach or view the beautiful mountain scenery of the Catskills from our open air flatcars for a wonderful railroad excursion.

The Catskill Mountain Railroad’s Esopus Scenic Train will operate May 26th thru June 24th Saturday’s, Sundays, Memorial Day, June 29th thru September 3rd Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays, Labor Day, and September 8th thru September 23rd Saturdays and Sundays.  Don’t miss experiencing the beautiful fall colors the Catskill Mountains have to offer. Our Fall Foliage Trains operate September 28th thru October 28th, Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays, and Columbus Day. Modified Fares are Adults ride for $12.00, Children (ages 4-11) ride for $7.00, and children under 4 years-old ride free with paid adult fare. All trains depart from the Mt. Tremper Station. Check our website for complete departure times.

The Esopus Scenic Train will also operate two scheduled “Twilight Limited” train rides on July 21st and August 18th. Thicket office opens at 7:30pm and the evenings events will begin at 8:00pm. You will enjoy light refreshments and live entertainment by Earl Pardini and The Slide Mountain Sting Band. The train will bring you out on the line to enjoy the beautiful starry night sky before returning to the Mt. Tremper Station. Adult fares are $14.00, Children under 12 are $8.00 and Children under 4 ride free.

No trip is complete without a stop at the Phoenicia Station, home of the Empire State Railway Museum. Here, one can explore railroading both past and present on the Catskill Mountain Railroad Branch Line of the old Ulster and Delaware Railroad for more information visit http://esrm.com.

Don’t want to travel all the way to Mt. Tremper. That’s okay because the Catskill Mountain Railroad also operates out of the Historic City of Kingston NY! Trains arrive and depart from the Westbrook Station at Kingston Plaza. The Kingston City Shuttle will operate on Saturdays only from June 30th thru September 1st. Every summer Saturday is a Special Event train ride. The Kingston Shuttle also offers fun Halloween trains and Winter Holiday Trains.  Adult fares are $6.00, children (ages 2 -11) are $4.00 and children under 2 ride free with a paid adult fare.
