The third annual Spring For Sound will fill the Village of Millerton with music on Saturday, June 15. Thirty bands and deejays will perform on three stages from 11:30 am to 11 pm, to benefit the North East Community Center (NECC). NECC board members and The Kyles bandmates, Mimi Harney and Kristen Panzer, created Spring for Sound to celebrate and showcase Millerton’s burgeoning homegrown music scene, while supporting their favorite organization.
The festival begins at 11:30 am as Del Water Gap serenades visitors at the Millerton Farmers Market in the Railroad Plaza. At 2 pm, the Decks & Dance Party will kick off in NECC’s backyard, 51 South Center Street. All are invited to watch, listen, join in a drum circle and enjoy an afternoon of folksy music, followed by a dance party on the decks at nightfall that will feature a lineup of deejays plus a rapper or two. Back at Railroad Plaza at the NxNE (North by Northeast) stage under the tent, 10 bands will play from 2 – 11pm.
This year the festival has added a third stage at Gilmor Glass, 2 Main Street (3 – 10pm). The Spring for Sound “pop-up” will feature performances by a mix of acoustic and solo artists during the afternoon. At 7 pm The Kyles will take the stage followed by rock duo City Streets/Country Roads. The evening will close with local favorite the Biocentrics. The Gilmor stage will also feature their famous Gilmor Oyster Fest raw bar with fresh oysters à la carte, iced and on the half shell, for $2 each.
Perennial favorites returning to Spring for Sound — Take One Car, The Nice Ones, DJ Daddy Rude Boy, DJ Ghetto Blaster, and The Kyles – will join newcomers Stone Cold Fox (an MTV-noteworthy band), Luddy Mussy, The Senecas, Oliver Kennan, William Clarke & The Future, Natural Beauty, Pete Pidgeon, Telescope Casual, Skallerton, and The Riptides.
All the musicians, who hail from Millerton, Boston, Brooklyn and Washington, D.C., are waiving their fees so that all proceeds from ticket sales support NECC.
Tickets, $10 in advance and $15 on June 15th are available for purchase at NECC or online at www.springforsound.com. Refreshments will be available for purchase on the grounds. Children 12 and under can attend free of charge. VIP tickets for $40 will include admission and “swag bag” with Spring for Sound t-shirt, drink and oyster tickets and more. Oakhurst Diner, Harney & Sons Tea, and Graham Stone of Stone Studios Lakeville are generously supporting Spring for Sound.
The funds raised will support NECC’s wide-ranging programs, from the Millerton Farmers Market to many others benefitting children, teens, seniors and those in need throughout northeastern Dutchess County. Spring for Sound is funded in part by a generous grant from the Dutchess County Arts Council.
