Andrew Imperati, Dutchess County Fair Manager has announced a one-day only Food Drive during the 2013 Fair. “We will be collecting food donations at the entrance gates on Friday, August 23 from 10am to 10pm”, said Imperati.

The Rhinebeck Rotary has volunteered to assist in collecting the food in each parking lot and all donations will be delivered to Dutchess County Food Banks on Saturday, August 24.

Each fairgoer will receive $1 off the admission price for every two cans of food they bring to the drive. Additionally, 4 cans of food individually donated entitle the giver to $2 off the fair admission price.

“ We are working with fairs all over the country to make 2013 a record year in giving back to our communities, as part of the IAFE’s (International Association of Fairs and Expositions) ‘Dream Big’ challenge”, continued Imperati. “The goal set nationally is 20 million pounds of food delivered to those in need”. “ And I believe the Dutchess County Fair can contribute substantially to meeting this goal”.

“There are a huge number of people in the Hudson Valley dependent on food banks for their meals and we never want to lose sight of giving back and helping our neighbors in need”,

Non-perishable food will be collected at the Main Gate and the 4-H Hill Gate from 10am-10pm on Friday. Fairgoers are encouraged to bring general food and household items including such items as: soap, shampoos, toothpaste, pancake mix, white or brown rice, sugar, flour, cooking oil and family treats like pudding, Jell-O, muffin or cake mixes.

“While your family is getting ready for a fun day at the Dutchess County Fair, take an extra minute to pack up some  food items and remember those people who depend on food banks  to keep their families fed”, said, Imperati.
