October Events on Huguenot Street: Night Shift Tombstone Tours and Haunted Scavenger Hunt
Staff | October 9, 2013 | CommentAs one of the earliest settlements in this country, dating to 1677, Huguenot Street is distinctly qualified to provide a unique perspective on the customs that we have come to associate with Halloween. In the spirit of this historic backdrop, HHS will host Night Shift Tombstone Tours on Saturday, October 19 at 6:00, 7:00, 8:00, 9:00 and 10:00 PM. Eerie spirits from the past will shed light on historical burial practices, mourning customs, and tombstone symbolism during evening tours of the French Church and adjacent burial ground, one of the first in Ulster County. This event also includes ghost stories by campfire, a macabre exhibit and supernatural refreshments. Tours begin from the DuBois Fort Visitor Center, 81 Huguenot St. $15 in advance and for HHS members, $18 at the door. Space is limited and advance registration is highly recommended via web http://www.huguenotstreet.org/store/featured-items-1/tombstone-tour-halloween-huguenot.html or phone 845-255-1660/1889. Rain date: October 20. Parking on Broadhead Avenue (HHS Lot) and the Municipal Lot on Huguenot Street adjacent to the Gardens for Nutrition.
