Scholastic National Winners, Artsonia Winner,

and Scholarship Winners Announced!

Mill Street Loft Arts located at 45 Pershing Avenue in Poughkeepsie, NY and with their second location at Scenic Hudson’s River Center at Long Dock Park in Beacon, is pleased to announce that several students enrolled in the Art Institute of Mill Street Loft have received prestigious awards and recognitions over the past few months.

Artsonia, the largest student art museum in the world, chose Art Institute of Mill Street Loft student Emily Adamo’s, from Valley Central H.S., piece, “Important Things”, to be one of only 500 pieces nationwide to be displayed on the Big Screen Plaza on the Avenue of Americas in New York City during the National Art Educators Convention.   In the Scholastic Arts & Writing Awards, Helen Sywalski, from Monticello H.S. received a Gold Key for her piece, Pharmaceuticals created for our Senior Project course. While Jessica Jones, from John Jay H.S. also won a Silver Key for her Portfolio Development IV abstract piece, Bicycle. Their work was singled out from over 200,000 entries.  “With over 200,000 submissions from students in grades 7-12, this year’s competition attracted more participants than ever before.  Virginia McEnerney, the Executive Director of the Alliance, noted that, “After meeting these students and viewing their work, you can’t help but feel optimistic and excited about the future of America’s creative leadership.”  Students’ works were blindly judged, first locally through the 116 affiliates of the Alliance for Young Artists & Writers (the non-profit organization presenting the awards) and then nationally by panels of judges comprised of renowned artists, authors, educators, and industry professionals.” The Scholastic Art & Writing Awards have an impressive legacy dating back to 1923 and a noteworthy roster of past winners including Andy Warhol, Sylvia Plath, Truman Capote, Richard Avedon, Robert Redford and Joyce Carol Oates.
