Hudson River Ice Yachts Cometh & Are Here
Staff | December 22, 2014 | CommentSailing on the ice has been a winter tradition in the Hudson Valley since the 1800’s. Until the invention of the automobile, ice yachts were the fastest vehicles on earth and attracted many rich and famous sailors…..including the Roosevelts.
And thanks to the Hudson River Ice Yacht Club, which is celebrating its 130th anniversary, you are invited to come aboard and experience this way of travel through pictures and video displays at the FDR Presidential Library & Museum Lawn.
This indoor / outdoor display of classic ice yachts runs from Dec 21, 2014 – Jan 3, 2015, including FDR’s ice yacht “Hawk” and examples of other historic and modern ice yachts from the Hudson River Ice Yacht Club.
Followers of the Hyde Park Community Photography Workshop series are especially encouraged to take advantage of this great photo opportunity. There is much more information and news about the many ice yachts at www.nps.gov/hofr
