Where you stay is a crucial part of any vacation. Maybe you want a bed and breakfast experience, or a resort in a quaint town to observe the beautiful fall foliage. Perhaps your preference is an economical option with close proximity to a hip town. Either way, there is a great place to stay for you at in the Valley.

Buttermilk Falls is nestled on 75 acres. Guests have the option to stay in 10 curated rooms in the circa 1764 Main House with river or garden views, or one of eight unique private cottages. Millstone Farm is the source behind produce found at the onsite restaurant, Henry’s at the Farm. For a fun autumnal day, take advantage of their U-Pick Picnic Package. Running through Halloween, guests who book a two-night stay Monday through Thursday receive a Buttermilk Falls picnic basket, a $25 voucher to use at Locust Grove Fruit Farm for U-pick produce, two Buttermilk Spa lunch items packed in the picnic, and two spa coupons.

For history buffs seeking the B&B experience, our recommendation is Journey Inn in historic Hyde Park. The Vanderbilt Estate, with its luscious formal gardens, is just across the way. Each of the seven rooms is filled with theme and spirit. The Roosevelt Room pays homage to Hyde Park’s claim to fame, while the Tuscan is red and majestic inspiring you to dine at the CIA for an Italian-themed meal.

If you would like to pamper yourself at a spa in the beautiful Catskill Park region head over to The Emerson in Mount Tremper. Enjoy the splendor of the fall with their Leaf Peeping package. If you go in the winter months, be sure to visit some of the neighboring mountains for a day of skiing. Or better yet: rejuvenate at the spa and enjoy a delicious dinner at the onsite Woodnotes Grille.

The Bear Mountain Inn is another option for a mountainous stay. Located in Bear Mountain State Park, this resort overlooks Hessian Lake. Choose from one of 15 deluxe guestrooms and suites at the Bear Mountain Inn, a standard comfortable room overlooking the Hudson River at the Overlook Lodge, or enjoy a rustic cabin experience at one of the four Stone Cottages.

For our budget-conscious travelers, there is the America’s Best Value Inn in New Paltz. A stay here means more money to spend on exploring the cool town of New Paltz. The Days Inn in Poughkeepsie is also an affordable option. Just a six-minute walk to Vassar College, have a swim in the indoor pool after your fall or winter stroll along one of America’s oldest college campuses.

Other lodging options include the Bricktown Inn, a Victorian mansion in Haverstraw; and the Roosevelt Inn,  located in the historic village of Hyde Park, just minutes from the FDR Estate.
