New “athlete-friendly” bike and run courses finalized and registration opened

The region known for superb northern skiing is rapidly developing a new reputation as a triathlon hot-spot. HITS Triathlon Series recently announced its return to Hunter Mountain Sept. 21-22, 2013 after producing two successful triathlon events at the Hudson Valley location last year. This year, however, the event will feature new bike and run courses tailored to the skill level of age-group athletes. They will showcase the dynamic racing available in the region, while still welcoming athletes of many levels.

HITS Triathlon Series released a set of finalized course maps this week for all five distances of the Hunter Mountain event. They feature swims in the pristine waters of South Lake, which sits within the boundaries of the spacious North/South Lake State Park. The courses are all out-and-back routes, providing exceptional spectator interaction. New this year, the bike courses will keep athletes on the wide, safe shoulder of Route 23A after leaving the park and the run courses will be entirely contained inside North/South Lake State Park.

“We wanted to enhance the athlete experience by keeping the run courses in the confines of the gorgeous park, as well as make the experience as safe as possible for all involved – athletes and spectators alike,” said HITS race director Mark H. Wilson. “We see this race really exploding this year and have already received interest from athletes and clubs all along the East Coast.”

Course maps for HITS Hunter Mountain are available online and can be viewed here.

Registration is currently open for HITS Hunter Mountain and will follow the popular HITS pricing structure that was announced this past summer. As an incentive for early registration, all athletes who complete their registration by May 17, 2013 will receive 75% off the regular registration fee. HITS Triathlon Series caps each of its distances at 500 athletes and has seen several 2013 races sell out, so early registration is highly encouraged.
