GREAT AMERICAN PICNIC & CONCERT Celebrate the U.S.A. at Boscobel!

  |   June 27, 2012  |  Comment

Pack your picnic, blankets and chairs and get into the patriotic spirit on Boscobel’s great lawn overlooking the U.S. Military Academy at West Point and the Hudson River, one of America’s most historic and inspirational vistas.

Patriotic tunes will be performed by The Southern Dutchess Concert Band, a 52-member band that continues in the great American tradition set out by the John Philip Sousa Band to entertain its audiences with a wide variety of music, including crowd-pleasing show tunes, popular standards, marches, light classical and wind ensemble music.

The Southern Dutchess Concert Band consists of woodwind, brass and percussion musicians from southern Dutchess County and surrounding areas and is conducted by Steve Pietrowski, band director at Beacon High School and managed by Dave Cole, director of The Big Band Sound jazz orchestra.

Boscobel’s Great American Concert & Picnic takes place Monday, July 2. Gates open at 5pm for picnicking and the concert will take place 7-9pm. Sparklers and U.S. flags will be available for purchase in the Museum Gift Shop. Tickets are $16; parking is free and children 12 and under are free. (Please note: there are no known, planned fireworks for this event.)

Tickets can be purchased 24/7 at Boscobel.org or in person or over the phone during business hours.

Boscobel is located on scenic Route 9D in Garrison New York just one mile south of Cold Spring and directly across the river from West Point. From April through October, hours are 9:30am to 5pm (first tour at 10am; last at 4pm); November & December 9:30am to 4pm (last tour at 3pm.)  Boscobel is open every day except Tuesdays, Thanksgiving and Christmas.
