Just in time for the Hudson Valley’s beautiful fall season, the Hudson Valley Rail Trail East Expansion in Highland is ready to open and connect with the Walkway Over the Hudson.

A Ribbon Cutting Ceremony in celebration of the Hudson Valley Rail Trail’s 1.3 mile expansion eastward is being  held  on Saturday,  October 2 at  12:30 PM  on the trail at 75 Haviland Road.  This expansion will connect the Hudson Valley Rail Trail to the Walkway Over the Hudson State Historic Park on Haviland Road in Highland.  Come celebrate as we open the newly constructed section of the Hudson Valley Rail Trail to the public.

After the ceremony you are encouraged to walk the newly opened section of the trail which offers varied terrain and experiences.  After leaving the 1926 caboose, you will enter a deep canopy of trees that in summer will offer shade from the sun.  Beyond the canopy of trees, you will come to one of many rock cuts that are a reminder that this was once a major thoroughfare for moving goods and materials on rails across the country.

Further down the trail the Route 9W bridge carries busy traffic above the trail and beyond that the trail crosses high over Route 44 and 55.   Shortly beyond, the rail trail intersects with Commercial Avenue Extension which leads to Commercial Avenue via which the rail trail visitor can venture into the Highland Hamlet Business Center where numerous eateries are located.

Please join your friends and neighbors as the Town of Lloyd celebrates this great accomplishment at the Ribbon Cutting Ceremony on Saturday, October 2 at 12:30 near the 1926 caboose located at 75 Haviland Road in Highland.  A light lunch will be served following the ceremony.
