Did you ever wonder what it would be like to march with a regiment from the Civil War? Eat and sleep in a Civil War encampment?

Experience life during this incredible part of our history? Well, now is your chance. On June 2nd and 3rd two famed units from the American Civil War, the 5th NY Duryee’s Zouaves and the 95th NY Warren Rifles will set up camp at Museum Village in Monroe, NY and will be looking for recruits to join their ranks!

You can spend the day and fall in the ranks with each Regiment to learn how to drill as a soldier, eat the same foods, and learn about their histories. Observe and take part in a way of life during these very tumultuous times. Find out what it takes to become a re-enactor. Ask questions. Or, if you prefer, just stand by and take it all in as the two units conduct schools of the soldier and practice drill and weapons demonstrations.

“This is a great opportunity for everyone to learn firsthand about a soldier’s life during the Civil War and what it takes to be a Civil War Re-enactor,” says Michael Sosler, General Manager for Museum Village.

“And, this is a great promotion for our big Civil War Re-enactment weekend on September 1st & 2nd. Take advantage and get a great preview. When you experience this you will surely want to see more.”

Museum Village is a living history museum preserving a vast collection of eclectic, 19th century artifacts for educational purposes. Using these artifacts and reproductions, we provide hands-on experiences and exhibits illustrating the transition from a rural to an industrial culture and economy in America, provoking thought and discussion about history.
