In Beacon on Saturday, July 9, join Scenic Hudson and Mill Street Loft for family-friendly celebrations for a new park on the Hudson River and the opening of a river-themed arts exhibit. Events will showcase Scenic Hudson’s Long Dock Park and Mill Street Loft Arts at Scenic Hudson’s River Center.

1-6 p.m.—Take to the water on a free kayak paddle, try out a new bike on a nature trail or join a guided tour of exciting new park features—including the River Center in a restored red barn. There will be music by three bands (Uncle Rock, WeMustBe and The Big Takeover) and a live theater performance (Arm-of-the-Sea Theater).

10 a.m.–1 p.m.—Visit an open house by Mill Street Loft for their Dutchess Arts Camp and new Beacon Creative Arts Pre-school Program.

4-6 p.m. – Join a reception for artists and the public at the opening of The Great Hudson River Exhibition, Mill Street Loft’s nationally juried arts show.

The celebration marks Scenic Hudson’s transformation of a former industrial site into a beautiful, public waterfront destination. The park will feature a kayak/canoe launch and storage pavilion, a fishing pier, waterside trails, picnic areas and rehabilitated wetlands. Mill Street Loft Arts will operate its national-award-winning multi-arts camps and programs for people of all ages. And Mountain Tops Outfitters will run a paddle-sport concession, offering kayak rentals and Hudson River tours.

You’ve got to join the Long Dock Park party. Details at www.scenichudson.org/events and www.millstreetloft.org.
