A Hands-On Celebration of Cinco de Mayo for Children: May 3

Arts Mid-Hudson Folk Arts Program, Marlboro Free Library & Members of the Mid-Hudson Mexican Community will present an afternoon or interactive, cultural events from 1:00 pm – 2:30 pm at the Marlboro Free Library (1251 Rt. 9W, Marlboro). It will feature traditional Mexican dance and arts. During the program, youth and adults are invited to learn about Mexican culture from member of the area Mexican community through hands-on activities including making cascarones (confetti-filled egg shells, traditionally used at Easter and during community celebrations) and piñatas. The program features performances of traditional folk dances from the Mexican states of Nuevo Leon, Oaxaca, and Sinaloa by dance troupe Grupo Folclorico de Poughkeepsie. In addition, interested children will be invited to participate in an experiential lesson-demonstration led Grupo Folclorico dancers.
