Award-winning composer Peter Buffett to perform at Strategies for a New Economy Conference

“Life Is What You Make It: A Concert & Conversation with Peter Buffett”

Emmy Award-winning composer, philanthropist and author, Peter Buffett will bring the message of his book to the stage at Strategies for a New Economy Conference. Hosted by the New Economics Institute, the three-day Conference promises to be one of the most important gatherings in the field of economics in many years.

The concert will take place in the Richard B. Fisher Center for the Performing Arts on the campus of Bard College on Saturday, June 9, 2012 at 8 p.m. Buffett’s concert will be in the Sosnoff Theater, which is part of the 110,000 square-foot state-of-the-art concert hall designed by architect Frank Gehry.

Buffett’s “Concert & Conversation” combines a cello-accompanied live piano/vocal performance, multimedia and personal stories to give the audience an authentic, inspirational and impactful evening. The event promises to be a thought-provoking program that will inspire the audience to follow passions over convention and do their bliss. By drawing upon his own life story and experiences, the Emmy Award-winning composer, philanthropist and author, discusses how important it is for each person to define his or her own path in life, regardless of their wealth or background. Buffett ultimately conveys that it is one’s values—and what people are able to give back to society—that shape and define us as individuals. The event is the live companion to Buffett’s New York Times best-selling book, Life Is What You Make It, which former President Bill Clinton calls “a wise and inspiring book that should be required reading for every young person seeking to find his or her place in the world.”

The event organizers are hoping the performance will be in line with the Conference goals of re-imaging a new and fair economy. ‘‘Peter Buffett is a musician and artist of exceptionally deep talent and ability.   His abundant humanity, his longing for justice, his passion for beauty, and his personal integrity all radiate through his music and performances’’, said Bob Massie, newly appointed President and CEO of the New Economics Institute. ‘‘Like so many people, he aspires to a just and sustainable world, and his expression on stage of this commitment touch and transform all who hear him’’.

The Conference will feature prominent speakers from a range of organizations, including activist and environmentalist Bill Mckibben, and economist Gar Alperovitz.
