Who says drinking is only fun in the summer? Nothing nourishes your heart and soul in the brisk months like a smooth glass of a wine or a tasty cocktail.

Angry Orchard’s 60-acre R&D test plot and tasting room campus is located in Walden. Visitors will enjoy learning about the cider-making process and the various techniques used to create Angry Orchard’s potables. Of course, you won’t want to leave without doing a cider tasting! Drafts for purchase are available at the Innovation Cider House, including the Crisp Apple, Easy Apple, and some other exclusive experimental batches.

Coppersea Distilling, located in New Paltz, uses heritage farming techniques and self-grown ingredients to create award-winning spirits. Their whiskies include Excelsior Bourbon, the only 100-percent New York Bourbon, Bonticou Crag Straight Single Malt Rye, and Big Angus Green Malt. Distillery tours on weekends.

Denning’s Point Distillery produces Beacon Bourbon,  Maid of the Meadow Vodka, Beacon Apple Brandy, Viskill Vodka, Beacon American Whiskey, and Great 9 Gin at its facility and tasting room in Beacon. Tours and tastings on weekends.

Wine lovers must “hike” the Shawangunk Wine Trail. With vineyards spanning Ulster and Orange Counties, many with picturesque views of Shawangunk Mountains or local bodies of water, there is certainly a place for everyone! The trail is home to 15 diverse wineries, which host events year round and produce over 100,000 cases of wine. Wineries include: Adair Vineyards, Applewood Winery, Baldwin Vineyards, Benmarl Winery, Brimstone Hill Vineyard, Brunel & Rafael Winery, Brotherhood, America’s Oldest Winery, Clearview Vineyard, Demarest Hill Winery & Distillery, Glorie Farm Winery, Palaia Vineyards & Winery, Robibero Winery, Stoutridge Vineyard,  Warwick Valley Winery & Distillery, and Whitecliff Vineyard.

Whitecliff Vineyard in Gardiner made Hudson Valley history in 2010 by winning Best White Wine in Show at the San Francisco International wine competition. With over 30 years of experience planting and experimenting with grape varieties, Whitecliff is committed to sustainability, environmentalism, and producing vegan wines. Special pairing events like Red Wine and Chocolate on November 4 and 5 or Thanksgiving Pairing on November 11.

Warwick Valley Winery & Distillery is less than 90 minutes from Manhattan. Much more than wine happens here. Bring the kids for apple picking, which runs until October 29 at the orchard. Cider, Warwick Gin, and American Fruits Distillery are all made here. Their tasting room offers $5 tastes of their cider, $6 wines, and $10 spirit tastings.
