Alright shopaholics: Christmas shopping just got even more fun. The Hudson Valley offers cutesy boutiques, charming villages, antique centers, and, yes, malls for those extra-frigid days when you just don’t want to be outside.

Crafts People in West Hurley is a local favorite. Representing over 500 contemporary craftspeople, this gallery is the perfect place to shop for a personal homemade gift for that special someone. Enjoy browsing around, eyeing the choices of blown glass, jewelry, pottery, turned wood, woven items, wrought iron, stained glass, martini glasses, and more. Downside: It will be hard to leave empty handed.

The Craft Village of Sugar Loaf is another craft paradise further south in the valley. Over 20 unique shops fill this charming, storybook-like village, which is bombarded by apple orchards and wineries. Shops offer artistic delights like oil and acrylic paintings, watercolor, stained glass, black and white and color photography, pottery, antiques, jewelry, woodworks, candles, soap, sculpture and more. Bliss Co-op has hand-crafted cards to make those season’s greetings really stand out.

If you’re in the mood to visit a consignment boutique and pick up some new threads, head over to Blackbird Attic in Beacon. A well-curated mix of modern, vintage, and designer clothing, prices are reasonable.

Maybe Dad wants a grandfather clock, or a rare map of the world from the 1700s for the holidays. While there are plenty of antique stores around, we recommend going to A Collector’s Eye in Hudson. Equal parts gallery and store, we can assure that you’ll enjoy perusing through collectibles from the Art Nouveau, Art Deco, Jungstile, Scandinavian Modern, and Mid-Century Modern periods.

A bitter winter day is the perfect excuse to head on over to the Poughkeepsie Galleria. A two-story mall, it has all the classics and then some. DSW, Abercrombie & Fitch, Forever 21, a young woman’s dream! Athletes rejoice: there’s Dicks Sporting Goods, Foot Locker, and more. While you’re in Poughkeepsie you might as well visit the Poughkeepsie Plaza—with a huge Marshalls it’ll be hard not to find an outfit for New Year’s Eve.

The Palisades Center Mall in West Nyack is four floors of fun for the whole family. Just 25 miles north of New York City, Palisades takes the word mall to a new level. Featuring 200 shops, 15 sit-down restaurants, a bowling alley, an ice skating rink, the world’s tallest indoor ropes course, a comedy club, and more, it’s seemingly impossible not to have a merry time here.
