A community Dedication of the largest outdoor public art mural in the City of Poughkeepsie will take place at the Pershing Avenue Playground, next to Mill Street Loft, at 45 Pershing Avenue in Poughkeepsie on Thursday, October 14 at 4:45pm. The ceremony will be led by City of Poughkeepsie Mayor John Tkazyik and a ribbon cutting by the Dutchess County Regional Chamber of Commerce.

This unique mural was created by hundreds of Poughkeepsie students from Mill Street Loft’s Outreach Programs (Project ABLE, Habilidad & PASWORD), with help from neighbors and members of the public who worked with Poughkeepsie-based artist Nestor Madalengoitia and Mill Street Staff over a three year period. It is comprised of 63 panels that depict the theme: “Careers, Education, Community, & Environment.”

The installation of this mural project is made possible thanks to the City of Poughkeepsie, members from Americorps and Mill Street Loft volunteers.  This multi-year mural project received support in part from the Dyson Foundation, National Endowment for the Arts, the Office of Children and Family Services, Dutchess County Workforce Investment Board, and GAP, Inc., among others.  Members of the public and neighborhood are invited to attend the Dedication and a Reception, which will immediately follow the ribbon cutting ceremony, at Mill Street Loft’s Gallery 45.
